The Palestinian refugees in Gaza and the people of Ukraine have much in common, now and historically. Both are resisting invasions, mass repression, and war crimes. U.S. president Biden has (hesitantly) supported Ukraine and is now backing Israel “one hundred percent.” Zelensky had made repeated expressions of “unconditional support” for the Israeli apartheid state. Biden and Zelensky have both turned history on its head by comparing Palestine to Russia, and Ukraine to Israel. The left must come to terms with this confusion.

How are the wars in Palestine and Ukraine connected? Is it possible to support one occupied nation without supporting the other? Many on the left who support the Palestinians are blind to the plight of the people of Ukraine, and vice versa. Socialists, and those who oppose war crimes in general, must address these political inconsistencies. This Sunday, Dana El Kurd and Vladyslav Starobudtsev will be speaking on these questions.

Speakers
DANA EL KURD: El Kurd is a Senior non-resident fellow at the Arab Center Washington, and author of the book, "Polarized and Demobilized: Legacies of Authoritarianism in Palestine”. For a summary of her views, see this interview.
